PORT JEFFERSON, NY – During this time of Orthodox fasting, the brothers of Chapter 319 of the Order of AHEPA hosted their Annual Fasolada Lenten luncheon on March 27 following the Divine Liturgy at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in the church’s community center. “These past few years we’ve all been limited on social gatherings, we’re happy to be here to share a meal with the parish,” said President Nicholas Calogredes. Approximately 50 people attended the luncheon and enjoyed the complimentary food and beverages.

A great deal of planning and effort went into the organization of the event. Port Jefferson AHEPA Chapter 319 extended thanks to their Brothers who were behind the scenes making the gears turn. Chief cook Brother Manoli Lilimpakis along with George Voulgarakis and Gus Xikis cooked an amazing fasolada. Brothers George Kallas, Ray Iasilli, and Mike Kontonicolas helped prepare and serve the parishioners.

The chapter also thanks the sponsors who provided some of the food for this event- Greek to Go – located at 2460 Nesconset Hwy, Stony Brook, NY, 631-689-2222, and a donation by Spiro Litsas. Lastly, they thanked the parishioners for breaking bread and laganes with them. “We love our parish, and this is a small way to give back,” the chapter said.

For nearly a century, the Order of AHEPA has promoted the ancient Hellenic ideals of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, family and individual excellence through community service and volunteerism. On a smaller and local scale, events like these show how AHEPA gives back to the community.
